Starting from Fall, 2009, Newton Learning Center and Kwong Kow Chinese School work together to form a new Saturday program called “G-Age Math and English Program.” Our goal is to empower students by providing them with a progressive outlook toward their academic future in the global economy. That is why we chose to call our program “G-Age” (the G stands for globalization). The G-Age Program offers weekend enrichment in Math and English for grades 1 to 11. Our curriculum is highly adaptive and is designed to cater to students’ individual needs.
We have a very experienced staff consisting of college lecturer, professional teachers, and students attending prestigious schools, such as MIT and Wellesley. Our staffs provide valuable insight into the college admission process and teach material to supplement their current school curriculum. Our classes are small to moderate in size with at least two teachers in every classroom. This allows us to better accommodate students’ individual needs.
Our English program consists of two elements. The first element is designed to establish foundations for the English language by exposing the students to a variety of literature and prose. The second element is designed to prepare students for the SATs, PSATs, MCAS and ISEE. We understand that proper use of the English language is essential for students’ continuing academic achievement. To ensure that students are using the language properly, we focus on teaching proper grammar, reading and writing skills throughout grades 1 to 11. Students constantly practice and hone their English skills through reading novels and writing critical analytical essays. Our teachers offer students immediate feedback on their assignments and adapt their teaching methods to optimize students’ improvement.
Instruction for the higher grades is centered on preparation for the high school and college entrance and achievement exams (SAT, PSAT, MCAS, ISEE). The tests are broken down so that students can learn strategies for tackling each part of the test. Students are also taught to master the techniques through repetition, supplementary exercises and practice tests. Our goal is to build the students’ confidence and readiness to tackle these exams.
Our math program concentrates on identifying and fortifying each individual student’s strengths and weaknesses. The teachers tailor each class to meet the needs of each student. We understand that every student’s math level does not necessary correspond to their grade level. We make every effort to provide each student with appropriate level of instruction.
